When feeding a fresh food diet whether cooked or raw you really can't go wrong, to be honest. What it boils down to when choosing a food for your dog that is either raw or cooked are a few things:
- Preference for raw or cooked (do you want to deal with raw)
- Cost
- Your dog's preference and tolerance. Some dogs (especially senior) do not do well with raw, some dogs with certain conditions will do better with cooked such as IBD or PLN
- The macros of the diet. Commercial raw diets are typically high in fat content, usually 30% fat on a dry matter basis (DM). Most senior dogs need more protein, most young adult dogs can benefit from some carbs to spare protein - this is why looking at the macros of the diet (protein, fat, carb) is important and can be much easier to understand when feeding fresh foods. There is a lot more room for these diets to be customized whereas the diets we've discussed previously are pretty set in stone from a formulation standpoint.
